Form and Function

The form of some things is dictated by their function. The Garden spade and the wood saw spring to mind as examples.

Musical instruments seem to have some logic to their design, but music in general does not bow to logic, so there always remain inexplicable details that are included just for the sake of tradition.

What about the f holes that grace the violin, or the wooden scroll placed near the tuning pegs? Do they have to be that shape?

The white stuff

Here's a high key picture.  This splendid bloom is presented against a white background to captivate and impress.  This is not a studio picture, I found the subject in a garden we visited. In fact the method I used was to photograph the flower from below and I used the grey sky as a backdrop.  Suitable application of exposure compensation pushes the entire image towards white and gives it the high key look.
