The new normal
No matter what the event, whatever time of day, someone somewhere will be holding up a phone taking a picture or a video. Perhaps one day humans will evolve some sort of bony structure on our head to support the essential accessory.

Or is that "Cuts back"? Anyway, the Internet era combined with falling literacy levels have allowed Dorset county council to downsize their Libraries. If you have an urgent need to contact someone by Telephone, then a pile of burning books may summon help.

Diplomatic Blunder 2
This strange shape shifting object worries me. It has been in out kitchen cupboard forever, but neither of us remembers buying it. I am starting to wonder if it is some sort of alien communication device. Furthermore if you surprise it, it does this. If it actually turns out to be the Ambassador from the planet Zorg, then we are in trouble. We just put him in a pan of boiling water and put spinach on his head. Students of this blog will know that this sort of thing has happened before.
Wouldwork?
Why do violins and fiddles have that odd scroll at the pointy end? Is it essential? Do you think they woodwork without it?
Hanging on
I'm quite surprised to see Boots the chemist are still selling single use film cameras. You need to be a dedicated film geek to do it this way. You pay almost nine pounds for a very basic camera with 27 black and white exposures, no immediate preview and you are rewarded with distinctly delayed gratification. Perhaps you have to pay for developing ant printing as well. I suspect so. So it is slow, grainy, low quality, monochrome and expensive. And yet compared to the ridiculous convenience of the ubiquitous smartphone camera, it is a tempting thought, no? I love the questions and comments on Amazon. "Can I upload directly to dropbox, does it have USB?" "Disappointed, only four of the pictures came out" Welcome to the past folks.
Primordial
Here's a popular thing, this placing stones on top of stones. I wonder. Was it ever thus? Did Neanderthal caveman and cave woman do this in their spare time? If you had walked this beach twenty thousand years ago, would you have seen this sort of thing? Answers on a scrap of Vellum, please.
One of those things
Every now and then I see something that merits a picture. Moustakallis restaurant is just excellent. We've eaten here lots of times. The owner does indeed have a Big Moustache.
Whitewash
It is a strange continental thing, this painting your trees white. Is this supposed to protect the tree from the strong Mediterranean sun? Does it just make them look pretty? Is it, perhaps, to mark out the road in rural areas with no street lighting?
Family Bakery
Hmm. The bread has been on the shelves here far too long . I think we will buy our lunchtime perquisites and comestibles elsewhere.
Unfinished projects
A striking feature of the Cypriot landscape are the ubiquitous unfinished projects. Clearly quite a sum of money has been spent here, but work has come to a halt and all the construction equipment has long gone. You see estates of villas where the roads, kerbs and lighting are all installed but there are no buildings. Why are there so many unfinished projects, where did the money come from, and why were they abandoned?
