Pit
Is it the Norfolk Broads? Is it perhaps lake Como?
No. It is a gravel pit. These end up as nature reserves and fishing lakes for some reason. Occasionally they get converted to holiday resorts. Perhaps there is a tax dodge involved.
Strange.
Before they get flooded they make wonderful fossil collecting places as the bits of mammoth bones are to big to be useful as gravel :-) However you do need proper permissions / HS&E agreements and equipment so sorry to anyone reading this who doesn't have that, Please don't go upsetting the landowners
